Former Democrat now Liberal “Republican” RINO Politician, Sheriff Chad Chronister, decided his Salary of $ 275,145[1], $110,058 in annual benefits and a $701,283 5-year pension cash bonus of was not enough money! Sheriff Chad Chronister used his political position on March 12, 2024 to apply for an 8-year special $1,284,908[2] taxpayer-funded pension bonus!
Dave Jaye, a researcher at www.tripledippers.org comments, “Sneaky Politician Chad Chronister is greedy. Marrying into a Multi Million Dollar Family is not enough for Chronister[3]. How many gourmet meals, luxury cars, and vacation homes does Chad Chronister need or can even use?”
“Chad Chronister exploited his political position by signing up for a Triple Dipper Program where Chronister collects a paycheck and a pension at the same time to do the same job and didn’t pay 3% of his $275,145 salary $8,254, into the Florida Retirement System shifting his personal responsibilities to taxpayers. Chad Chronister is setting a disgraceful example of personal enrichment in politics”, said Jaye. See https://TripleDippers.org/hall-of-shame
While Politician Sheriff Chad Chronister is not satisfied with his $275,145 salary plus approximately a $12,645 a month pension for life, the average Hillsborough Deputy’s salary is $56,599[4] The average Tampa, FL worker earns $40,751 per year or $19.59 per hour[5], must work over 30 years to match Politician Chad Chronister’s Pension bonus of $1,284,908!
Sheriff Chad Chronister knows only 39% of Hillsborough County High School students are college ready, only 46% pass reading, only 32% pass math, yet 76.6% graduate with what is often viewed as a worthless Diploma[6]. Chad Chronister’s $1.2 million pension cash bonus would be better spent on providing 54,934 tutoring hours[7] for Hillsborough students to become more job and college ready.
Politician Chad Chronister’s pension cash bonus is formally called the “Deferred Retirement Option Program” (DROP). DROP’s original intent: helping the state retain essential and rare skill sets and experience in mission-critical jobs– not for politicians and low-skill jobs. “Will the Press ask Politician Chad Chronister if he will promise in writing, not to ask for special politician permission to break his contract promise to resign when Chad Chronister takes the taxpayer-paid $1.3 million pension cash bonus on January 31, 2028?”, challenged Dave Jaye.
Sheriff Chad Chronister knows that 66% of males in Florida’s Jails and State Prisons lack a high school diploma and 33% read below a 6th- grade level[8]. But Politician Chad Chronister prioritized his $1.28 Million pension bonus over advocating for the use of Politicians’ pension bonuses for tutors.
Governor Jim DeSantis signed SB 7024 effective July 1, 2023 allowing politicians and bureaucrats to extend pension bonuses by 60% from 5 to 8 years and up to 10 years for School Employees and increasing the pension bonus interest rate from 1.2 to 4% and allowing many to collect pension bonuses earlier[9]. The Triple Dipper Pension Bonus system has created $39 billion in unfunded Florida Retirement obligations, amounting to a $1,725 liability for every man, woman, and child in Florida[10].
State and local Politicians are entitled by law to special treatment that allows them to accrue benefits faster and retire with bigger payments than most other workers. The separate class was created and modified over the years by the Florida Legislature, whose 160 members also are covered by pension cash bonus system[11].
